Lyme Regis

Lyme Regis in the west of the case-study area is a small fishing village and tourist destination.  It is famous as the place in which the first fossil dinosaur bones (marine creatures called Icthyosaurs and Plesiosaurs) were discovered by Mary Anning in 1811.  It is the geological importance of this coastline that has led to it becoming designated as a World Heritage Site.
