Bournemouth - Beach Management

Bournemouth Beach is extensively managed to secure the tourism industry in the town.  Beach nourishment has taken place, and there are rock groynes and wooden groynes to hold the sand in place.  The beach nourishment programme during 2005 and 2006 cost £5 million, and was funded by DEFRA.  This project dredged sediment from Poole Harbour which was then deposited on the beaches at Bournemouth, Swanage and Poole.  The cliffs in Bournemouth have been drained and stabilised using retaining walls.
